dialogue with Jorge Emmanuel

on the project:

to enjoy the landscape – interventions:
an initial idea proposed – acronyms.
because it’s flow, passing-by, transit – place of.
(nothing that would need more than one second to be seen – not even.)
due to its formal nature: enunciation reduction, idea synthesis, absent referent – someplace else?
(a naturally odd feeling when one catches a glimpse of it – something that’s not there.)
perhaps some political propaganda, for those who might think so.

on redundant discourse – what is an acronym in itself, or its nature:

sort of ABBREVIATION formed by INITIALS OR FIRST SYLLABLES OF AN EXPRESSION that REPRESENTS NAME of COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL, ADMINISTRATIVE or SPORTS INSTITUTION or ORGANIZATION; CONVENTIONAL SIGN, TRADEMARK; CHARACTERISTIC REPRESENTATIVE SIGN of CORPORATION, COMPANY, ACTIVITY etc.

on working with ideas – acronymic concept in dialogue:

to communicate something not necessarily by means of a complete sentence
but inserting letters and dots that at first sight have no meaning
as: Y.W.B.C. (something like: yesterday I went to the beach and cried – in spite of the lyricism)
arousing an odd feeling about something that doesn’t offer a signification
for it apparently doesn’t mean anything
red with letters that glisten when lights are reflected on them
mobster acronyms written on walls around town came to my mind yesterday; a synthesis that possibly nullifies literality, bringing it closer to the object, the trace, the graffiti, the concrete;
all of a sudden, the acronym L.H.O.O.Q. popped up in my head with its surrealistic Duchampian touch… conveying in addition an erotic sexuality / who knows a little homo or just for effect? – look
deviation towards the red
reading reading reading
dreaming and waking up in the middle of the night
thinking about acronyms
they arrive by ship
creating acronyms, conceiving possibilities with cryptic letters/sentences – nothing that brings about a resonance association as in Duchamp’s work –
I’ve realized that there shouldn’t be any reduced sentences as initially proposed; I wished to place myself as a spectator who will be coming across possibilities of letter combinations not knowing what they are, or if they refer to
I’m visualizing three signs, in pairs – each pair beside the other, as if the same acronym would be pointing to opposite directions
I very much like the image/mirage with no sentence behind it…
I like the three acronyms – the couplings, the multiplication, the reproduction and the mirroring;
dimensions/punctuations/insertions.
I liked your insertion into the landscape; the mountain road is about two kilometers long, maybe a little more; one uphill, one downhill; from both sides there’s a view – one looking on the lowlands of Guaratiba, the other looking on Recreio/Barra; the movement is intense; an estimated fifty thousand vehicles per day; peak hours are 7-9 am, and after 6 pm till around 8 pm there are many crowded (packed) buses … people/commuters going to work and coming back home.
whatever it may be, the view from inside the bus is always closer to the signposts, for instance.
I am sending you a few possibilities of acronyms for us to select 3 of them; tell me the ones you like and then I’ll tell you the ones I like best, for I don’t want to influence your aesthetic judgment.
R.P.Q.O.S.
L.I.P.C.F.
T.V.E.X.Z.
U.N.Z.R.F.
A.P.E.N.B.
S.J.A.P.D.nice to get your acronyms, I’ll print them out/give me a few days/hours to elaborate my suggestions;
but right away I immediately like
R.P.Q.O.S.
A.P.E.N.B.
so:
your two ( I love R.P.Q.O.S.)
and L.I.P.C.F. or U.N.Z.R.F. (although I prefer the ‘i’ ‘c’ and ‘f’ sounds together)
in order to make it easier for you, regarding the insertion of the design/concept of the acronyms within the space/landscape
I suggest something around 50 x 120 cm
for each painted iron sheet; but you are to decide that.
possibly on Saturday 22nd, I’ll be able to start taking the necessary steps to manufacture the signs and also to prepare the construction of the page for the site.
we’ll need some text; we could use excerpts culled from the e-mails we’ve been exchanging; let’s take a look at this/review this together?
any suggestions?
